An expert in anthropology: Anne Chapman
Anne Chapman was a franco-american
anthropologist who was born in 1922 in Los Angeles, California. She cursed
universities studies on Mexico and on E.E.U.U, specializing in the
amerindian study. The latter is reflected in her numerous articles, documentaries,
photographs and audio discs.
Her work as well as his
studies, was mainly focused in indigenous people, working on Mesoamerica and on
Tierra Del Fuego, being this last territorial area the one that made her better
known at least in the anthropological circle. Her work on Tierra Del Fuego
was related with Selknam´s ethnic group and with Yaganes to a lesser extent,
she rescued for posterity some vocabulary of yaganes and some parts of culture
of Selknam people. I admire her because she did a great and thorough work with
these people of the end of the world, also because she was an anthropologist
that broke the vertical relationship between observer and observed that is
commonly found in etnographies, and then she built a horizontal relationship
with these amerindian people. In summary Anne Chapman was a great
anthropologist.
